I HELP THOSE WITH A VISION TO DEFINE, IMPLEMENT
AND EXECUTE TO REALIZE THAT VISION.
"Whilst we deliberate how to begin a thing, it grows too late to begin it."
- Quintilian
"Josh, I've probably done more jury trials than 90% of the attorneys in this town, but I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how to get clients ... so I'm stuck begging for scraps from the table of other attorneys."
Those were the words I heard years ago from an attorney with about 25 years of trial experience. I went to visit him after he was fired from the firm where I was working. He was renting a tiny, depressing office at the end of a dark hallway, and had almost no clients.
The saddest part was that he was a very good attorney, but no one knew it. So he was left to essentially wait for other firms to send him the cases they didn't want.
I left his office that day and swore I would not end up like that. And I didn't.
I have since spent many, many hours studying and implementing cutting-edge marketing techniques and strategies to position myself at the top of the legal market in multiple practice areas (immigration, criminal defense, personal injury, commercial litigation, property management, etc.), create two thriving immigration practices from scratch, and grow my own firm, DEERE LAW, into a successful practice that has helped thousands of people, and provided a great lifestyle for me and my family.
I started to learn marketing just to grow my own practice, but soon learned that I actually LOVE marketing. And even greater than my love for marketing is my passion for teaching others how to market. So, I created
At MarketTheLaw, we provide consulting and marketing services to entrepreneurial lawyers ranging from technical, to strategic, to downright creative. But truly successful marketing should always begin with a comprehensive analysis of your vision and long-term goals.

Well, first of all, we've been where you are. MarketTheLaw was founded by Josh Deere, a practicing attorney. In his fourteen years in the law, Mr. Deere has studied and implemented cutting-edge marketing techniques and strategies to position himself at the top of his game in the legal market. That marketing expertise has allowed him to position himself as an expert in multiple practice areas (immigration, criminal defense, personal injury, commercial litigation, property management, etc.), create two thriving immigration practices from scratch, and grow his own firm into a successful practice that has helped thousands of people, and provide a great lifestyle for him and his family. In other words, unlike many others who enter the legal marketing space with only some kind of marketing degree, Mr. Deere actually knows first-hand the pains, stresses, fears and struggles of being a lawyer and developing and running his own practice.
In other words, I help emerging entrepreneurs, attorneys and other professionals identify their short and long-term goals, develop the branding to set them up as experts in their markets, and then implement strategies that help them achieve their visions.

SPEAKER
I love speaking. In fact, I’m passionate about it. But if you’re looking for someone to just show up and fluff up the audience, I’m not your guy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against motivational speakers. They have their place, and I’ve been known to “siss boom bah” when needed. But that’s not my purpose.
I believe feel-good, motivational speeches only get you so far. I’m not interested in a room full of warm fuzzies unless the audience walks away with truly solid, substantive tools that bring about meaningful progress towards tangible goals. If I get an entire audience jumping and screaming for joy during a weekend retreat, but leave them with nothing to sink their teeth into on Monday morning, then I have failed.
Whether you’re an individual, business, sports team, church group, or sales team, the principles are the same: to maximize your path to success, you must a) be deliberate and laser-focused on what you want to achieve; b) be brutally and painfully honest about why you are not there yet; c) dissect exactly what steps must be taken to get there; d) create and implement a schedule of periodic accountability “self-retreats” to re-visit and adjust your progress; e) be consistently and stubbornly engaged in progress; and f) recognize that there is no “finish line”. These are the principles that form the basis for what I teach.

AUTHOR
My writing projects range from legal fiction and paranormal thrillers, to branding and marketing and personal and professional development.
I’ve been told that I should choose a genre and stick to it. My response? Where’s the fun in that? I love great stories. Sometimes those come in the form of a work of fiction, and sometimes they come from helping people become the heroes of their own stories. If I can contribute to either of those, I’m all in.
